EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it!

Back in the day of printed newspapers, an EXTRA edition was a special communique to the masses.  After eating sugary cereal and watching a cartoon with a scrappy paperboy selling “EXTRA!!” editions, my brother and I used to love to run around the house with a rolled up newspaper yelling “Extra, extra, read all about it!”.

Usually the news had to be something big for the publisher to drop everything and crank out an EXTRA Edition, such as the peaceful ending of a horrific World War.  Our EXTRA today is not based on new news, rather, it is based on something that we take for granted happening the way it is supposed to – our national election for our next President and other key leaders. This is vitally important in preserving our precious shared freedom. 

So, what is the headline news that warrants this Extra?  We believe that regardless of the outcome of this election, there will continue to be a very active merger and acquisition market.  So here is our headline…

STILL A GREAT TIME TO SELL/BUY A BUSINESS- REGARDLESS OF ELECTION OUTCOME! 

 This belief is fueled by the following facts:

• Aging Baby Boomers are not in the mood to weather another crisis and have reached the point (and age) where they are ready to finally sell their businesses.
• Huge piles of cash are still sloshing around in the economy and in funds looking to acquire companies.  One has only to open the Wall Street Journal to see yet another Special Purpose Acquisition Company (“SPAC”) being newly listed.  These ‘blank check’ shareholder backed funds are sure to contribute to increasing valuations for companies in select industries.
• Companies in industries hit hard by Covid-19 are reaching for help.  Opportunistic buyers who have been patient for many years are looking for distressed acquisition targets.
